The Magic in Me: A Storybook SEL Lesson Inspired by Encanto
Help your students discover the power of their unique strengths with this engaging, hands-on Storybook SEL lesson inspired by Encanto. This lesson supports students in recognizing their value, building self-confidence, and understanding that everyone has gifts, even if they don’t look the same as others.
Students will explore what it means to feel different, compare themselves to others, and question their own strengths, just like Mirabel. Through guided discussion and meaningful reflection, they will learn that their worth is not based on having the most obvious or visible talent, but on the unique qualities they bring to their classroom and community.
At the heart of this lesson is a creative, student-centered activity where learners identify their own strengths, talents, and character traits and reflect on how those qualities come together to make them who they are. Students will also have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the strengths of their peers through a collaborative “Gift Exchange” extension, building connection, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.
This lesson goes beyond self-awareness by helping students apply their strengths in real ways, encouraging them to use their gifts to make a positive impact in their classroom and beyond.
